Just a passing cloud or is the storm finally over?

Picking out Ezekiel Kemboi from a crowd might be as difficult as differentiating two peas from the same pod but probably his victory dance at the 2012 London Olympics victory moves after winning the men's steeplechase can easily give him away.

Ezekiel Kemboi born May 25, 1982 is a Kenya athlete and winner of the 3000 meter steeplechase at the 2004 Summer Olympic, the 2009 World Championships, the 2011 World Championships and most memorable the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Earlier in June this year, Kemboi made headline news off the steeplechase track the Kenyan police charged the world's 3,000m steeplechase champion with assault after a woman said he stabbed her.

Anne Njeri Otieno alleged that the athlete attacked her when she declined his sexual advances.

Earlier this weekend, Kemboi was in the headlines again after a dramatic turn of events just before the case was due to open when Ms Njeri Otieno decided by her own free will withdrew the charges.

According to the BBC website, a magistrate had granted the 30 year old athlete bail in June and allowed him to travel to compete in the London 2012 Games, where he won his second Olympic gold medal.

"I want to go back to university to pursue journalism and I have forgiven Kemboi out of my own free will," Reuters news agency quotes her as saying outside court.

According to Kenya's East Africa's Standard newspaper, the development seemed to catch Kemboi unawares as he had pensively sat waiting in court for his case to be called.

For him, his family and his over pouring fans, they will feel like the dark cloud that was looming over their heads has finally drifted away but in some spheres many unanswered questions are still on the tips of people’s mouths.

Investigative Internet Training workshop 2012

Lightning has struck me twice this year for I have gotten a second opportunity to attend another training from VIKES and MISA Tanzania. This time I am attending an Investigative Internet Training workshop. The training workshop has the aim of helping me practice more investigative fact-finding procedures and to produce and develop journalist stories based on the research from resources in the internet.

The workshop has brought together journalists from different media houses as well as trainers from a number of universities. My expectation of the workshop is learning new and interesting techniques on investigative journalism as well as network. During introductions, one of the participants, Mr Simon Berege from Tumaini University said that he hoped that at the end of the workshop he would be able to develop Wikileaks kind of reporting, that I personally found intriguing. My belt is fastened and I am ready to go to the world beyond.
